Tangled food chain

Tangled Food Chain is a rock band that played live and recorded between 1995 and 1997. In 1993, drummer Don Anderson and guitarist Mike Horton, who later went on to form ENI and All We Are, had started experimenting with new sounds after playing in previous bands Hostile Fetus and a later incarnation called Burning Eden. Members and songs had come and gone trying to gel something together that was different. Once Don and Mike were back on their own, they decided to focus on improvisation, experimentation, and new methods of writing and recording. Influenced by so many new things at the time from psychedelia to the booming "new" alternative rock scene, as well as movie soundtracks and genres unrelated to rock, the result was a building archive of music which soon became Tangled Food Chain's reperatoire. Don had been writing lyrics and arranging them with the new song structures, but only to give a guideline to whomever filled the vocalist slot. That slot was later filled by Rob Johnson, but not before Don and Mike went through a careful selection process to find the right bass player. That role was finally accepted by Aaron Casale, who later recorded ENI's "Dreamtime" and engineered live sound as well as video duties often. Don and Mike had built a friendship with Aaron who in 1993 invited them to play as Burning Eden with Dean Letendre on vox at what was locally known as the infamous annual "Backyard Bash". In 1995, Don, Mike, and Aaron had solidified the songs enough and Aaron introduced the rest of the band to Rob, who contributed a lot to the band creatively as well as keeping much of the ideas Don had "thunk up" lyrically and vocally. The ideas Don contributed were only to serve as a guideline so the music would allow for a human voice. Rob just happened to be a great fit for what was in place and chose many of those ideas while bringing some fresh ones to the table as well.

In 1996, Tangled Food Chain recorded Unseen Tundra at Retteffects Studio in Milford, MA and played live in MA and RI until 1997.  Rob went on to serve in the U.S. Army and  Aaron pursued a career in media. As for Don and Mike, well... hit the "back" button and see what you can find.
